Good News for Construction Workers: Job Options Continue to Increase

Those of us in the construction industry have a lot to be excited about if recent stats are to be believed: Jobs are on the rise. But how does that affect construction managers who perhaps can’t get the personnel they need? Or construction workers themselves? As everyone goes through and decides how to plan their year according to growth in the construction industry, we encourage you to take a moment and keep these things in mind.

Remember that bubbles burst

One of the things we’re seeing the pundits get excited about is a statistic given out by the Bureau of Labor Statistics that shows there’s more grown in the construction industry and that total construction jobs are the highest they’ve been since the economy crashed back in 2008. Just the way this is worded should encourage people on both sides of the sector to remember that bubbles do burst. At Grove Hardware, we’re not saying that we’re approaching a bubble – simply that it’s wise to be conservative.

A rise in all construction jobs doesn’t affect every sector of the construction industry

The next thing to consider is not just the jobs themselves but where they’re coming from and where they’re going. For example, we’re seeing news from the Associated General Contractors of American that shows that residential construction jobs are on the rise but commercial construction jobs are growing even faster.

That said, not every sector the construction industry is necessarily on the rise. We do know that increases in construction jobs are higher by percentage than they were a year ago. That said, growth isn’t quite as high as it is overall but it is raising.

How can construction companies use this information?

If you’re a construction leader, how do you use this news about jobs in the construction agency? First, look at your business. Do you have the construction tools you need to handle this increase in jobs? After all, even if you have the manpower, if you don’t have the tools or other job site supplies to get the job done, then you’re not going to have success no matter how many jobs come your way. This is why it’s a good idea to invest today in the tools and supplies you anticipate needing tomorrow.

How can construction workers use this information?

A rise in jobs is likely to lead to a shortage of qualified construction personnel. This means that you may able to both ask for higher wages and have your choice of jobs. However, this isn’t automatic. You should position yourself as wisely within the industry as you can. This involves finding ways to increase your training, ensure you’re ready to work with all aspects of a construction jobs, and follow safety protocol.
