A new study has given us a lot of information
A recent study of more than 1,200 people who either completed a master bath renovation in the last year, are currently working on a master bath renovation, or are planning to begin a master bath renovation in the next three months answered 56 questions. The results showed that the average amount spent, over every age group, for a renovation of a master bath larger than 100 square feet was $21,000.
A lot of people want to say goodbye to their bathtub
More than one-quarter of bathroom renovating homeowners have removed their bathtub in order to have a larger shower that can accommodate two. This is up from about 20% just a few years ago. Of those homeowners who do want a bathtub, more than one-third of them are replacing their current tub with a soaking amenity, whether a freestanding flat-bottom tub or a soaking tub.
Bathroom renovating homeowners have a lot of thoughts on showers
About 75% of homeowners want to add higher end features in their shower. The most wanted aspect, rainfall showers, are on the must-have list of 55% of people. 21% of people said they want a curbless shower, and 18% said body sprays were most important to them. With this extra money being spent on showers, 10% of homeowners said they’re willing to give up their sink budget, 14% said they’d sacrifice lighting, and 16% said they’d deal with a lower quality toilet to get the shower they wanted.
Expect bathroom renovations to be more high tech
64% of people say they use their mobile device in the bathroom. They use their phones for things like checking their email, getting and sending texts, or making calls. Demand for high-tech bathroom add-ons is on the rise. Some examples include toilets that clean themselves, mood lighting, and digital control for showers. Some surveys also show that Americans are getting on board the predominately European trend of having bidets in the bathroom.
