How to Prepare for Any Inevitability at Your Construction Job Site
California is known for its mild weather but year after year, we are starting to see some unique weather patterns here. Areas that don’t normally have to deal with droughts are hurting for water, while areas that are typically desert-like are flush with greenery. At Grove Hardware, we want to ensure that construction companies are ready for any weather possibility.
If you’re going to work in poor weather conditions then we hope you’ll follow these safety tips. If you have questions, or you need to shop for job site supplies, reach out to us or stop by our convenient Ontario location.
Safety vests are a must
Ideally, wearing a safety vest on any construction job would be advised but we know that in practice this doesn’t always happen. However, when inclement weather strikes, or quickly-changing weather is upon you, it’s wise to wear safety vests and other gear that can ensure workers can be seen even if the weather takes a turn for the worse.
Think wisely about the work done in poor weather conditions
If there is work to do be done off site, consider doing that when the weather gets bad. Even if you must do work onsite, consider doing as much as possible offsite. For example you can cut electrical conduit assemblies, put together the wire, and get as much assembly done as possible before you bring it to the job site. This minimizes the amount of work done in adverse conditions.
Consider the costs of transportation when making your bid
If you know you’re going to be dealing with a difficult job that has logistical issues, make sure you include these excess costs in your initial bid. For example, if you’re getting to a work site that is hard to get to, like one on an island or that’s otherwise inaccessible by land, make sure you’re not just considering the cost of getting your workers to the site, but of getting large construction tools there as well. Of course, you’ll also need to plan for the unique weather that can make transportation even more challenging.
Remember that bad weather can lead to long-term health issues
As you consider the potential costs of bad weather, you likely think of the increased chance of injuries. However, remember that you’re also looking at the potential for health issues too. For example, workers who are outside in the rain have the chance of getting hypothermia. Workers in an enclosed area can suffer if they don’t have enough ventilation. Heat-related issues, like sun stroke and sun burn, can be an issue if your workers are outside in the blazing sun for day after day.
These are just some of the safety issues that Grove Hardware would like our clients to keep an eye out for. As the weather changes around the country, it’s important to not rely on what’s worked in the past. When you want to look forward and prepare for the worst, we have the tools and expertise to help you do just that.
